Orange Is the New Black filmed across the street from my apartment in Astoria, Queens on September 11, 2013. The process was an arduous one that lasted all day with even the smallest of scenes being reworked over and over and over. I eventually learned which words I should use as cues to run and grab my camera so I wouldn’t have to sit around waiting like all the exhausted extras below. I knew which ones would give me barely enough to time to jet in and snap at random and which would provide me with plenty of time to prepare the shot before the actual action began.
