The Allusive Monastery

The Allusive MonasteryAfter hours of driving we arrived and immediately received some dodgy advice from a random person standing around (“it’s closed, you can’t go in, only up and around.”) What? We inspected the grounds ourselves to, sure enough, find a sad small padlock attached to a very easily hoppable gate, but none of us felt up for breaking into a religious institution. The crazy ones amongst us set off to follow afore mentioned dodgy advice and circumnavigate the whole thing and we smart ones opted for a quick gander around. Our choice, (even though we DID miss out on actually standing on the Azerbaijan border and on borrowing a border guard’s binoculars,) was ultimately the right one (in my mind at least) as we found something very interesting much sooner…
